The Equinox – and a Barred Owl

I am honoured to display this badge as the recipient of the Photographic Excellance Award from Birdfeeders.com for the photo below “First Sight of a Barred Owl”. Thank you!
It is now the fall equinox with all the gold of the leaves, the red of the kokanee salmon and the wistful remembrance of a beautiful summer well-spent. And of course the wildlife! I have been curious about the “white-wash” under the Ponderosa Pine that hinted at an owl roost. I’d heard the screeching call but saw no owl. But yesterday morning, there it was – a beautiful Barred Owl watching Max and I and tolerating the mobbing chickadees. The chickadees moved on (no doubt to stash more of my sunflower seeds!) and the owl dozed in the trees.
It was a beautiful way to start the fall season!
