Singing, Diving and Dipping
Diving and swimming in frigid glacial water, singing throughout the winter and nesting beneath waterfalls – surely such a bird is worthy of note! But few are aware of the American Dipper.
I have been watching the dippers of Kokanee Creek who now, having made it through a hard winter, are repairing their domed mossy nest. I hope it is a good nesting season for them. I love watching them feed their young both in the nest and out in the wild water of the creek once the young have fledged.
I made some videos of singing, diving and dipping dippers. These videos may be a good introduction to a wonderful litte songbird but I hope you get to see one in person.
