Welcome Back Spring: Eagles, Violet Greens, a Shrike and Kildeers Too!

Today was a milestone for me: I saw my first Violet Green Swallow of the season! Any day where I see a pair of Bald Eagles building a nest is already a great day, but for me, swallows are the true beginning of spring. And I do love spring! There has been a Northern Shrike in the area for the past while but today the shrike landed a few feet from me and posed for a photo. Killdeer calls, the spring call of chickadees and the staccato drumming and calling of flickers is more proof that spring is in the air.
The world is slowly turning green, tree buds are swelling and the brilliant yellow of Skunk Cabbage spathes are emerging. Welcome back spring!
