Winter Otters

December 30, 2014

Winter is well and truly here. The snow is squeaky cold and the sky is a deep blue. What do animals do in these frigid winter nights? We left the wildlife cameras up in Kokanee Creek Provincial Park to find out. And we found, among other animals – Otters! The otters managed to perform for the lens over a few nights, eating fish, wrestling, grooming and well…being otters. This five minute video shows the otters in action.

Any day that includes otters is very, very special. Last week I watched two otters near Taghum for almost half an hour and I took the photos that I am sharing here with you. The otters were very curious and watchful but that did not keep them from grooming, nuzzling each other and exploring the small pond.

It is almost 2015 now and I wish you – and the otters – a Happy New Year!
