Georgia on My Blog: The Tale of an Anole and a Dragonfly
I have just returned from a wonderful trip to Peachtree City Georgia. Peachtree is nestled in a beautiful Carolinian forest beside a lake. There are miles of woodland trails to explore in the city itself – quite the place of discovery for a naturalist from the Kootenays!
Georgia spring mornings are beautiful soft mornings filled with bird song, brilliant flowers and budding leaves. I rescued a beautiful dragonfly from the backyard pool on one such morning. I had placed it on a rock wall and was taking a pictures when a little brown Anole Lizard darted from the shelter of a palm – and grabbed the dragonfly by the head. The incident took less than a few seconds: the Anole struck, posed briefly for photos and then darted back to shelter with the struggling insect in its jaws.
The dragonfly may disagree, but I as the fortunate photographer, and most likely the lizard, have to think that sometimes you just get lucky. Enjoy the photo!
