Red-tailed Hawk Photos

February 22, 2013

I have spent many long hot lazy summer hours watching soaring Red-tailed Hawks.  There was a Red-tailed pair that nested in “the swamp”  near my home when I was in high-school. Now I often see a pair of red-tails up on Rover Creek Road. I have not seen their  nest,  but I did see a fledgling red-tail sitting on the dirt road one morning. It watched me approach (I was concerned it might be injured) and then flew up to the nearby trees- in the same area where the adults had been agitated and “screaming” during that summer.  I imagine this pair were finding lots of food by hunting the ground squirrels, marmots and hares in the area.  I hope that there will still be a pair out near Rover Creek this summer.

Enjoy the photos.
